“The Alchemy of Ancient Song Roads”, a program of six original compositions by the Jazmourian Ensemble, was launched on October 13th, 2024 at the lovely Ainslie Arts Centre Main Hall in our home town of Canberra. Four pieces were composed during our travels in Iran and Armenia, and the remaining two were created in Canberra. One of the latter, Chabuk Savar, was inspired by the rhythms of horse-riding, and the feeling of being one with nature on a morning ride.

An improvisatory extract from our piece “Karavankosh” (Venus Rising), a programmatic work set in the southern desert of Iran.  A caravan of travellers must halt their camels and camp at twilight, afraid of marauders taking advantage of the dim light to attack them.  Some musicians play by the fire, inspired by the beauty of the desert and the rising of Venus, the planet representing creativity and music.

Music from Aghle Sorkh (Red Wisdom); a sonic exploration of the inner journey, inspired by the 12th century text of Persian Illuminationist philosopher Shahab al din Sohrawardi by the same name.

Extract from Chabuk Savar (Horserider), live in concert at Ainslie Arts Centre.
